Synopsis

Author of the beloved Half Moon Hollow series of vampire romances (Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs), Molly Harper has created a standalone paranormal romance in which a dilapidated haunted house could bring star-crossed lovers together - if it doesn't kill them first!

When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he's hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate - he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in 19th-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say "Boo".

But Nina shows no signs of being scared away, even as she experiences some unnerving apparitions herself. And as the two of them work closely together to restore the mansion's faded glory, Deacon realizes that he's found someone who doesn't seem to like his fortune more than himself - while Nina may have finally found the one man she can trust with her bruised and battered heart.

But something on the island doesn't believe in true love...and if Nina and Deacon can't figure out how to put these angry spirits to rest, their own love doesn't stand a ghost of a chance

Review

Nina Linden thought that got the opportunity of a lifetime.  She was hired to design the landscaping fir a software mogul's private island and ancestral home off the coast off New England.  This high profile and high paying job is just what Nina needed to get her new business really up and running.  So what, if she's required to basically live on the island. So what, if he crazy ex-boyfriend is determined to destroy her business.  So what, if the place is haunted by the her bosses murdered ancestor .....wait.....what?

This book has the humor, heart, and mystery that you can expect from a Molly Harper book.  I like how her books don't take themselves so seriously.  She doesn't write standard formulaic romance novels.  She takes all those rules and throws them out the window.  The readers is left with a very fresh take on the genre.  I also love how the actual story isn't lost to the romantic storyline. Though I did feel that this book didn't dive as deep into the story as most of Molly's books do. This onion just seem to be missing a bit of it's layers.

This book's heart is it's characters.  I like how no one is who they first seem.  Each of them come in wearing a mask that gets chipped away. This is mostly because the characters are forced to become close due to their isolation on the island.  The book would be nothing with out their friendships and relationships!  There is nothing like being almost terrified by ghosts that makes people fast friends.

As always, Amanda Ronconi is beyond fantastic!  She has an amazing voice and puts her own unique spin on each character.  Her wonderful narration style really brings this story life.   I also find myself forgetting that this series is narrated by a female narrator alone, because she does a wonderful job voicing each male so flawlessly.  She might just be my favorite part of this audiobook.  She is Molly Harper's audiobooks, so much so that I can almost her her reading these books in my head.

BETTER HOMES AND HAUNTINGS was funny, sweet, and spooky.  I just wished that this was a Molly Harper series book. I adored these characters and ideas behind this book, but I just found myself wanting more.  I guess this is why I'm not a massive fan of stand alone books. This would be a great book for a first time Molly Harper listener/reader.

Synopsis

Down, Boy

Anna Moder has just witnessed a shooting, seen her car pulverized, and rescued a wounded stranger - only to discover he's really a werewolf. And by her recent standards, things are actually looking up. Lycanthropes don't faze Anna. Doctoring a wolf pack outside Grundy, Alaska, is the closest thing to home life she's known in years. But hitching a ride to Anchorage with long-absent pack member Caleb Graham - that's a risk. Part of her itches to whack his nose with a newspaper. The rest is trying unsuccessfully to keep her own paws off every delicious inch of him.

The problem is, Caleb employs his lupine tracking abilities as a not-quite-legal bounty hunter, and Anna is suspicious of both him and his profession. On the run from her past, with old problems closing in, she'd like to stay far, far away from anybody with connections to the law. Caleb, however, seems determined to keep her close. Are his intentions noble, or is he working a more predatory angle?

Anna's been dreaming of returning to a semi-normal life, but now she's experiencing a strange new urge...to join Caleb in running with the wolves.

Review

I jumped at the chance to listen to HOW TO RUN WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF. Anytime author Molly Harper and narrator Amanda Ronconi team up, ciaos and hilarity ensues!

Anna Moder is on the run.  She's spent years jumping from town to town, trying to keep a low profile. That is, until bounty hunter Caleb Graham practically stumbled into her life. Caleb's middle name must be trouble.  I mean she first finds him shot in a alley.  Bar fights, strip clubs, and did I mention he's a werewolf?  Not exactly the type of person that will help you stay inconspicuous.  Both characters have secrets and are running from their tangled pasts. What could possibly go wrong?

Anna and Caleb have to be my favorite of characters in this series.  I just can't believe how well they fit.  They are like puzzle pieces, always meant to fit together.  They connection was exactly what they both have been looking for, even though they realized it. The more they fight the attraction, the harder it is to stay a part. They are both drawn to each other from day one.  Each has this internal need to protect the other, no matter what.  I love how Caleb makes Anna feel safe and protected, which she's been missing in her life.  I wanted them together from the moment they first interacted! They would share a touch or a caress, and my internal fan girl would jump for joy.

Amanda Ronconi is the voice of Molly Harper for me! When I read Molly's books, I can almost her Amanda's narration.  She has an amazing ability to make the character jump right off the page.  She gives each character it's own voice and personality.  Amanda helped guide the listener through this roller coaster of emotions, like I believe no one else could.

It's been a long time since we've visited the wolves of Crescent Valley, but it was worth the wait. I love that Molly choose to concentrate Caleb and Anna's relationship for the meat of the story, and then bring in bits and pieces from her other series. The story is a nice blend of humor, heart, and heat! Great characters back up and unique storyline. If you love witty romance, Molly Harper is your girl! I just hope she doesn't wait so long for the next installment of her Naked Werewolf Series.

Synopsis

HELL ON WHEELS

After failing as a magician's assistant, a photographer, and most recently, a bride, Miranda Puckett takes a position as a driver for Beeline, Half-Moon Hollow's premiere vampire concierge service.

Miranda's assignment? Driving Collin Sutherland, the world's most fastidious vampire from Washington to Kentucky, so he can deliver a mysterious black case to Council official Ophelia Lambert.

Collin, a paranoid, aristocratic vampire with a debilitating fear of flying, refuses to let the case out of his sight. Miranda needs this time on the road to decide whether to permanently cut her ties with the fiance that had an "emotional affair" with a childhood pal, but Collin’s neatnik tendencies are driving her around the bend. The man acts as if leaving a fast food wrapped on the passenger seat is reason for a full-on CDC de-contamination scrub-down of the car. All she can do is promise to stop intentionally doing the things that make his stiff upper lip twitch with irritation.

As more and more mishaps occur on the road trip from hell, Miranda and Collin work together to meet his delivery deadline. Hotel rooms are destroyed. Beloved cars are defiled. And somewhere along the line, client-driver hostilities become snarky flirtation.

Will Collin and Miranda make it to the Hollow in one piece? And if they do, will Miranda leave old, safe relationships behind for something new and well, just plain weird? (from Goodreads)

First Line

"If Singletree’s only florist didn’t deliver her posies half-drunk, I might still be married to that floor-licking, scum-sucking, receptionist-nailing hack-accountant, Mike Terwilliger."

(This may be my favorite book beginning in a long time!)

Synopsis

Lacey Terwilliger’s shock and humiliation over her husband’s philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike’s company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike’s family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend," Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town, a media punch line, and the defendant in Mike’s defamation lawsuit.

Her seemingly perfect life up in flames, Lacey retreats to her family’s lakeside cabin, only to encounter an aggravating neighbor named Monroe. A hunky crime novelist with a low tolerance for drama, Monroe is not thrilled about a newly divorced woman moving in next door. But with time, beer, and a screen door to the nose, a cautious friendship develops into something infinitely more satisfying.

Lacey has to make a decision about her long-term living arrangements, though. Should she take a job writing caustic divorce newsletters for paying clients, or move on with her own life, pursuing more literary aspirations? Can she find happiness with a man who tells her what he thinks and not what she wants to hear? And will she ever be able to resist saying one . . . last . . . thing?

When you live your entire life for someone else, do you lose who you are? Lacey Terwilliger sure did! She gave up her previous life, her friends, job offers, and even time with family members for her “floor-licking, scum-sucking, receptionist-nailing hack-accountant” husband! (I LOVE THAT LINE) My heart ached for Lacey, while the naught part of me cheered for her when she sought revenge against her philandering, d*ickless, spineless excuse for a husband.

I was very impressed that Lacey made the decision to remove herself from the situation, and move into the cabin by the lake. It was the only way she would be able to start moving on with her life. The moment Lacey’s new neighbor Monroe saw her, he probably knew she was trouble. I mean what kind of crazy person swims naked in a lake at night! There initial interactions were hysterical!!! I just adored Monroe’s character all-around. Lacey and Monroe just have such an easy, light repartee. Who wouldn’t root for them? Plus, there is just something about a sexy, cocky, recluse writer.

I truly believe that if Lacey hadn’t let Monroe into her life, she wouldn’t have been able to start the healing process. This book was about growth and making the right decision rather then the easy decisions. I enjoyed watching Lacey blossom into the vibrant, smart women she was always meant to be. She picked up the pieces of her broken heart and moved on with her life. I also loved that Lacey used writing as a cathartic process.

Even though I enjoyed this entire book, my favorite part had to be the ending. There was no big fake “and they lived happily ever after” ending to this book. No wedding bells. No baby. No running though the airport to keep the love of your life from boarding a plane. It was realistic, and made me appreciate this book that much more.

And soon as I finished this book, I called my best friend to tell her all about it. Being the amazing person that I am, I couldn’t help picking up a copy of AND ONE LAST THING… for my best friend. It is just one of those books that you have to share! It was funny, snaky, real, and thought provoking. I cannot wait to see what Molly Harper writes next!

Molly Harper - Q & A

Q: What lead you to first start writing? Tell us about yourself.

MH: I’ve been writing ever since I was very young. My mom remembers an 8 year old me, setting up a “writing office” in the living room, complete with an old manual typewriter and a toy phone. Still, I never considered a writing career until a high school English teacher compared me to Erma Bombeck. I became more interested in column writing and journalism. I majored in print journalism at Western Kentucky University. After graduation, I got a job at my hometown newspaper, The Paducah Sun and married my high school sweetheart, David, a local police officer. After six years at the newspaper, I took a more family-friendly secretarial position at a local church office.

David worked nights and I was alone with our young daughter in the “The Apartment of Lost Souls,” where small appliances went to die. It was either go nuts or write a book. A big fan of vampire movies and TV shows, I decided to write a vampire romance novel. I wondered what would be the most humiliating way possible to be turned into a vampire—a story that a vampire would be embarrassed to share with their vampire buddies over a nice glass of Type O.

The story that emerged was that of Jane Jameson, a single, almost-30 librarian working in Half-Moon Hollow, Ky. Despite the fact that she’s pretty good at her job, she just got canned so her boss could replace her with someone who occasionally starts workplace fires. Jane drowns her sorrows at the local faux nostalgia-themed sports bar. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer and shot by a drunk hunter. And then she wakes up as a vampire.

It took me a year to write the book, but only three months to find an agent, Stephany. We signed a representation agreement and two weeks later, I was driving to the post office. The cell phone rang. It was Stephany and I asked if I should pull over. And it was a good thing she did because I started squealing like a five-year-old girl when she told me there was an offer. I hung up and the phone, and then immediately called back because I thought I hadn’t said thank you. She assured me that I had, several times, but calling back was a nice gesture. And then I called my husband and burst into tears.

Q: What should people know about HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF?

MH: I wrote a good bit of the initial notes for HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF during the January 2009 ice storm. Thousands of homes in Kentucky, including mine, lost power. With no light, heat or hot water, my family had to bunk at my inlaws’ house. My husband was working twelve-hour emergency shifts. This left me with our six-month-old and five-year-old. All day long. With nothing to distract them except crayons and matchbox cars. And Darcy could not understand why the TV wouldn’t come on. It was either come up with a new book or just go straight-up crazy Jack Nicholson style. By the time the power came on a week later, I had about 20 pages of notes.

Q: Tell us a little about Mo and Cooper?

MH: Mo moves to Grundy, Alaska to escape her intrusive, hippie parents. But even in Grundy, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, that merits attention. For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question.

If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is?

Q: This book is part of a series, how many books will be in this series?

MH: I have plans for a third, but I don't know whether that will be picked up.

Q: Do you normally write to music? If so, what would be on your HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF soundtrack?

MH: I do listen to music when I write. In fact, I've posted the playlist I used while writing this book on my blog.

Q: The cover art for this series and AND ONE LAST THING is beautiful, who is the artist?

MH: The fabulously talented Renata Dibiase. I love her!

Q: Which of your characters is your favorite? Why?

MH: Probably Jane, because she's so similar to me, from our social ineptitude to our shared clumsiness. I once went on vacation and was stung by a jellyfish, suffered a puncture wound from a wrought iron pineapple and was struck in the cleavage by a flying champagne cork all in the span of a day or two. I based Jane’s multiple humiliations on real life experiences… though I have never been mistaken for a deer and shot.

And she’ll always be my favorite, I think, because she was the first heroine I was able to bring to life.

Q: So far, which book has been the hardest to write?

MH: The second Nice Girls book, NICE GIRLS DON'T DATE DEAD MEN. I had to rewrite that thing five times. By the time I was done, I was mentally exhausted.

Q: Your dialogue is full of snaky comments and funny one-liners. Does funny come naturally to you?

MH: My parents are the funniest people ever. If you wanted to survive Thanksgiving, you learned to quip.

Q: What is coming up next for you?

MH: Well, the sequel to HOW TO FLIRT, will come out on March 29, 2011. It's called, THE ART OF SEDUCING A NAKED WEREWOLF.

Q: What are you currently reading?

MH: BRUSH OF DARKNESS by Allison Pang. There's a foul mouthed unicorn. That's all I have to say.

Q: What is your favorite genre to read?

MH: Contemporary romance.

Q: What is your favorite television show?

MH: Ever? Probably Buffy. Currently on TV? The Office.

Q: Which authors do you admire?

MH: Teresa Medeiros, Nora Roberts, Stephen King, Olivia Goldsmith, and a lot more.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?

MH: Chinese food. I've never met a fried dumpling I didn't like.

Q: Which is sexier: vampires, werewolves, or snaky writers that lock themselves inside lake cabins?

MH: I'm going to say sexy, snarky writers who lock themselves away in cabins. Because I know those guys actually exist!!

Q: If you had your choice between a naughty or nice book, which would you pick on a cold winter’s night?

MH: Naughty, how else am I supposed to keep warm?

Thanks Molly, for taking the time to stop-by and answer a few questions! Congratulation on the up-coming release of HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED VAMPIRE. Just like your other books, I'm sure this one will be witty, sexy, and refreshing.

My Thoughts

If this book is even close to as amazing as her Jane Jamison vampire books, this will be amazing. Her writing is both funny and fresh. The author posted the first chapter of this book on her website, so take a few minutes to check it out. This book has been places on my massively growing To-Be_Read pile. I can't wait to read it!
